Tips for halving and doubling recipes
How to halve a recipe
Divide each ingredient amount by 2. The tricky ones: half of ¾ cup is 6 tablespoons (or ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons). Half of ⅓ cup is 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons. Half of 1 tablespoon is 1½ teaspoons. Use the converter above for any amount.
How to double a recipe
Multiply each ingredient by 2. Watch out for leavening agents (baking powder, baking soda) — sometimes you need slightly less than double to avoid over-rising. A good rule of thumb is to use 1.75× the leavening when doubling.
