Our Story

Why We Built Kich

We'd been thinking about building this app for years.

We tried a lot of recipe apps. Paid for some, tested a bunch of free ones. They all did one or two things well, but none of them did everything we needed. We kept switching between apps, working around limitations, and wishing someone would just build the one that does it all.

So eventually we stopped waiting and started building it ourselves.

Not as a company. Not with a team of engineers and a marketing budget. Just us, on our own time, fitting it in around full time jobs and everything else life throws at you. Early mornings, late nights, weekends. Every spare hour went into making this thing work the way we knew it could.

It would have been easier to just keep using three different apps. But once we started, we couldn't stop. Every time we solved one problem, we saw the next one. Every time a family member said "can it do this?" we figured out how to make it happen.

The thing that kept us going was how broken recipe saving actually is.

Half our recipes were old family ones, passed down on handwritten cards and in notebooks, scattered across drawers and different people's phones. The other half were modern. Instagram posts we saved and forgot about. Links someone texted that got buried in the conversation. Bookmarks to food blogs that we'd never find again. Screenshots sitting in the camera roll between random photos.

Old recipes, new recipes, same problem. They were everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

That's really why Kich exists. One place for all of it. Scan a handwritten card. Save an Instagram link. Pull in a recipe from a food blog. Whether you're building your own personal collection or putting together a shared family cookbook that everyone contributes to, it all lives in one app. Plan your meals, build your grocery list, and cook from it without jumping between five different apps.

Every feature in Kich exists because we needed it, or someone in our family needed it. If it's in the app, it's because it solves a real problem in a real kitchen.

We're still building. There's always more to do. But the core of it works, and our family uses it every day. Whether you're cooking for yourself or feeding a whole family, we hope it works for you too.
